A 27-year-old man who works as a counselor at Baldwin Park Elementary School has been arrested after police found multiple images and videos depicting child pornography at his home.
Orlando Police Department Detectives and members of the Special Weapons and Tactics team have arrested Christopher Lazaro Ruiz on multiple charges related to possession and transmission of child pornography.
On Tuesday, April 11, police served a search warrant on Ruiz’s home. Ruiz was located inside the home and was interviewed by detectives.
During the interview, Ruiz admitted to sending and possessing multiple images and videos depicting child pornography. The ages of the children in the videos were not detailed by police, and no additional information was provided as to how police determined Ruiz was in possession of the files.
Ruiz, who has been employed by Orange County Public Schools since the end of 2022 as an Extended Day Counselor at Baldwin Park Elementary School, had regularly been in contact with children due to his position.
As a result, OPD detectives are conducting follow-up interviews with children that were under his care.
Ruiz is charged with 10 counts of possession of material depicting the sexual performance by a child, three counts of transmission of child pornography, and one count of unlawful use of a two-way device. He is currently incarcerated at the Orange County Jail.
Anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Ruiz is asked to contact the Orlando Police Department at 321-235-5300.
