A 25-year-old woman from Orlando was killed after the vehicle in which she was riding was involved in a 6-vehicle accident on Interstate 95.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred on Friday, April 21, at around 10:09 p.m. on I-95, near mile marker 267.
A 28-year-old Orlando man was driving a 2019 Hyundai Elantra southbound in the outside lane of I-95, in the area of mile marker 267. The vehicle failed to maintain the outside lane and traveled into the center lane, directly into the path of a 2015 Hyundai Tucson being driven by a 21-year-old woman from Jacksonville.
The front of the Elantra struck the right side of the Tucson, before entering the path of a 2015 Toyota Corolla, that was being driven by a 20-year-old Jacksonville woman.
The impact caused the Corolla to travel across the southbound lanes towards the center median, which caused it to collide with the guardrail. The Corolla then reentered the southbound travel lanes and veered into the path of a 2017 Volvo XC90 being driven by a 37-year-old man from Lancaster, South Carolina.
The Corolla then came to rest in the outside center lane, facing west, directly in the path of a 2015 Volvo Semi-truck with a trailer. As a result, the semi-truck struck the right side of the Corolla and began to rotate, entering the paved median.
A 2022 Toyota Rav4 that was being driven by a 55-year-old Miami man, attempted to swerve into the paved median in an attempt to avoid a collision. This caused the front of the Corolla to collide with the right side of the Rav4.
Due to the secondary impact, the Elantra began to rotate and traveled across all southbound lanes towards the center median, causing the vehicle to collide with a guardrail.
The driver of the Elantra was transported to Halifax Medical Center with serious injuries. His female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.
All of the other drivers and passengers involved in the accident received minor injuries or were uninjured.
