A 38-year-old Clermont man claimed a $1 million prize from a scratch-off that he purchased at a local Publix.
John McPherson claimed the prize from Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee, according to a statement issued by the organization on Tuesday.
McPherson, who won the prize from the 500X THE CASH scratch-off game, chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $820,000.
McPherson purchased his winning ticket from the Publix located at 4351 S. U.S. Highway 27 in Clermont. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning scratch-off.
The $50 scratch-off game 500X THE CASH features a top prize of $25 million, which is the largest scratch-off prize ever offered by the Florida Lottery. The game’s overall odds of winning are 1-in-4.5.
