Fire consumes metal recycling facility in Sanford

Multiple local fire crews were called to the scene of a raging fire at a metal recycling facility in Sanford this weekend.

Units from the Seminole County Fire Department and Sanford Fire Department responded to reports of a fire outside a metal recycling facility on State Road 46 in Sanford on Saturday, May 6, at around 5 p.m.

Over a dozen responding units were able to extinguish the fire with foam handlines and an elevated master stream. The fire was quickly contained and no structural damage or injuries were reported.

According to officials, crews used heavy equipment to pull the pile apart and separate it in order to extinguish the fire more quickly.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation.
