A 62-year-old man was struck and killed by a van on U.S. 441 late Tuesday night, marking the third pedestrian death while crossing the road in the past two weeks.
The fatal accident took place on Tuesday, May 9, at around 11:27 p.m., according to a report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol.
A 62-year-old Altamonte Springs woman was driving a 2013 Honda Odyssey northbound on U.S. 441/Orange blossom Trail, approaching Stoneybrook Hills Parkway in Orange County.
At the same time, a 62-year-old man from Astatula began walking in a westerly direction across the northbound, outside lane of U.S. 441/Orange Blossom Trail. The man, who was not walking in a marked crosswalk, entered the direct path of the Honda and was struck by the vehicle.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The female driver of the Honda was transported to Waterman Hospital with minor injuries.
The incident comes less than 10 days after an 81-year-old man was killed while trying to cross U.S. 441, near Sun Life Path in Orange County. During that incident, the driver fled the scene. Police are still looking for a Toyota between the years of 2018 and 2023 that may be responsible for the accident.
In a similar incident that took place on April 29, a 63-year-old was struck by a pickup truck on the same highway, near Rosamond Drive. Police are still looking for the driver of that pickup truck, who also fled the scene.
