2-year-old boy drowns at in-home daycare in Seminole County

A 2-year-old boy died after falling into a pool at an in-home daycare in Seminole County.

The fatal accident took place on Tuesday, May 9, at a home on Nutmeg Court in Chuluota. Seminole County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the home, which operates a daycare, at around 9:31 a.m. after receiving multiple calls asking for help.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 2-year-old boy who was lying on his back just inside the front doorway. The child was lying in a pool of water, was unresponsive, and was partially blue in color.

The homeowner was providing CPR to the child before a deputy took over. The report indicates that as the deputy provided CPR, water was coming out of the child’s mouth.

According to the homeowner, who operates the daycare from her home, the child had fallen into the pool for about one minute before he was taken out of the water.

The deputy continued to provide CPR until a Seminole County Fire Rescue unit arrived and took over, transporting the child to Oviedo ER. The homeowner notified the child’s mother, who arrived a short time thereafter before proceeding to the Oviedo ER to meet the rescue unit.

The child was pronounced deceased sometime thereafter.

No additional details have been provided by police and the child has not been identified by authorities.
