73-year-old pedestrian killed crossing street in SoDo

A 73-year-old man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in Orlando’s South Downtown District last night.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of Michigan Street and Brown Avenue at around 11:25 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 73-year-old man from New York was walking in a southerly direction when he entered the westbound, outside lane of Michigan Street.

The man was not in a marked crosswalk and entered the direct path of a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, which struck him head-on. The man was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Traverse, a 45-year-old Orlando man, was not injured in the crash.
