Police have identified the man who shot and killed a 25-year-old woman in his apartment before fatally shooting himself in the head.
In a press release issued Thursday, Orange County Sheriff’s Office identified Brisna Alcenat as the homicide victim found by deputies at the Residence at West Place Apartments on Wednesday, May 10.
Deputies responded to the apartment complex in the 700 block of Sherwood Terrace Drive at around 10:13 a.m. after receiving calls regarding a man with a gun. That man has since been identified as 22-year-old Yaseen Justus Thomas.
While deputies were traveling to the scene, a 911 caller told police that Thomas had fired the gun. As deputies arrived at the apartment, they heard additional shots being fired.
After entering the residence, authorities found the bodies of both Alcenat and Thomas. Both were suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say that Thomas shot Alcenat before shooting himself in the head.
An innocent bystander that was inside the apartment was also grazed by one of the suspect’s bullets and was treated at the scene.
Both Alcenat and Thomas were transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.
Police say that Alcenat and Thomas lived in an apartment inside the complex where the shooting occurred. No additional information was provided regarding their relationship.
