Mary Patricia Luby

Mary Patricia Luby was born on September 15, 1929 in St. Mary’s, Newfoundland. After graduating high school and attending college in St. John’s, Newfoundland, she immigrated to the United States in 1949 and settled in Medford, Massachusetts. She worked in downtown Boston for several years and enjoyed going to Boston Red Sox games with her nieces and nephews.

She married Russell Luby in January 1960 and they moved frequently during his long career in the United States Navy. They started a family as they moved from station to station, living over the next decade in Massachusetts, Florida, Illinois, and Virginia. The family moved to North Carolina in 1972 after Russ retired, and then relocated to Mansfield, Massachusetts in 1974, where they lived for 11 years and welcomed their first grandchildren. Upon moving to Orlando, Florida in 1985, Pat and Russ finally settled down for good and lived in the same house near Winter Park, Florida for the next 37 years. Pat was an active member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Winter Park.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Martha White, her siblings Jim White, Ethel (Phonse) St. Croix, Leonard (Marie) White, Cyril (Agnes) White, Ambrose (Kay) White, Harold (Alice) White, Rita (Ignatius) St. Croix, her twin brother Cornelius White, and John White.

She is survived by her husband Russ, her three children Kathryn (Doug) Willoughby, Frank (Sue Mino) Luby, and Kevin Luby, and her seven grandchildren: Martha Devnew, Patricia Devnew, Douglas Willoughby, Nicole Willoughby, Zachary Luby, Felicity Luby, and Bradley Luby. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren – Alex, Noah, Sydney, Ivy, and Colton – as well as her sisters-in-law Veronica White and Marg Singleton and numerous loving nieces and nephews across the US and Canada.
