Lurlene Evadney Morant

Lurlene Evadney Patten Morant has passed away on May 8th, 2023, at the age of 83.

Lurlene, also known as “Cherry,” was born on March 6th, 1940, to parents, Stanford and Gwendolyn Patten in Jamaica in the parish of Clarendon. After she graduated high school, she moved to England to go nursing school around 1961. She was at West Herts Hospital in Hempstead, England. and graduated with a nursing degree. She then worked as a midwife at Nelson Hospital in the South Wimbledon area. She would then move to the United States and worked as a nurse at Montefiore Hospital. Wanting to also continue her education, she attended Manhattan Marymount College in New York City and received her bachelor’s degree in psychology. When it came to continue being a nurse or wanting to work as a psychologist, she ultimately chose her nursing career. She spent almost all her working career in the U.S. as a registered nurse working for Montefiore Hospital in Bronx N. Y. for 18 years and later when she moved to Florida worked for Florida Hospital, Altamonte for another 18 years. She found that nursing was the most rewarding career because she loved taking care of people.

In 1977 she married Edgar Morant and in 1978 had their only child, Michelle Morant.

Her hobbies included traveling to countries all over the world like France, Egypt, Japan, Germany, Mexico, and China just to name a few. She also was very active in her church choir as a member of Bear Lake United Methodist Church. She also loved to garden as she took great pride in making sure her yard looked outstanding. She is now even pictured on Google gardening in her yard when you enter her home address. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work feeding the homeless with her church.
