Judith Crump

Judith Roberts Crump passed away at her residence in Lake Mary, Florida on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the age of 88. With her daughters at her side, she departed this earth in her sleep to be with the Lord in Heaven and reunite with her husband, Jerry.

Judy was born on August 17, 1934, in Asheville, North Carolina. She met and fell in love with her husband, Jerry, while attending high school in Lenoir, North Carolina. After graduation, Jerry joined the United States Air Force and Judy briefly attended nursing school. Not wanting to be apart, the couple decided to elope and were married in Gaffney, South Carolina on January 10, 1953. Judy left the nursing program to travel with Jerry during his military tours in Mississippi, Washington, and Alaska. Upon completion of his service, the couple moved to Florida and started their family. While raising their family, Judy worked as a bookkeeper for Jerry’s TV sales and service business in South Florida, and later as a customer service representative for Wal-Mart in Ocala, Florida. After retiring they split their time between homes on the east coast of Florida and in the North Georgia mountains.

Judy was a faithful and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She deeply loved her family and was devoted to caring for them. Even after her children became adults, she was always there to listen, help and reassure them when life was difficult. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and looked forward to the times they would visit. She would do anything for her family and always made sure they had what they needed.

Judy was a wonderful cook. As a young wife and mother, she would prepare homemade meals for her family. She also enjoyed baking and made delicious treats to share with friends and family, especially during the holidays.

Holidays were a time that both Judy and Jerry looked forward to. When their children were young, they always did things to make the holidays special for their family. Later when their children were adults, the family continued to get together, taking turns celebrating the holidays at one another’s homes.

In retirement, Judy loved spending time at their home in the North Georgia Mountains the most. Much of her days were spent tending to her garden and enjoying the outdoors. She had a “green thumb” and grew the most beautiful flowering plants in her garden, which was admired by all. In the afternoons she would sit in her backyard swing, enjoying her garden and watching birds.

Judy and Jerry had fun traveling together. They toured around the country in their RV and took many other trips with their family over the years. They often took day trips, enjoying local festivals and sightseeing.

Judy is survived by three siblings, David Roberts (Pam) of Spartanburg, SC, Tommy Roberts (Sandra) of Clyde, NC, and Betsy Roberts Reeves of Summerville, SC; three children, David F. Crump, Carole E. Edstrom (Filip) of Apopka, Florida and Leigh E. Crump of Lakeland, Florida; four grandchildren Courtney Salcedo (Juan), Tiffany Crump, Nicole Crump, and Robert Edstrom; two great-grandchildren Marcus Salcedo and Natalia Salcedo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” L. Crump, son Joseph B. Crump and parents Owen Roberts and Margaret (Jones) Roberts.
