Moped rider struck by vehicle and killed in Sanford

A man who was riding a moped was struck by another vehicle and killed in Sanford on Wednesday afternoon.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of County Road 427/Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Meeting Place in Sanford at around 1:31 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24.

Through their preliminary investigation, the Florida Highway Patrol determined that the moped was traveling westbound on Meeting Place, approaching Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

The moped traveled into the path of a 2015 Toyota Corolla that was traveling northbound on Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

As a result, the moped struck the Corolla. The rider, who has not been identified by police, was transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Corolla, a 19-year-old woman from Sanford, was not injured in the accident.

The accident created a roadblock for all northbound lanes on CR 427 near its intersection with Meeting Place.

Florida Highway Patrol says it will release more information after it has finished its investigation.
