A Clermont teenager is facing nearly a dozen felony charges after he was found in possession of child pornography.
Aidan De Medeiros, 18, was arrested last week on 11 counts of sexual performance of a child by the Clermont Police Department Criminal Investigation Division.
The investigation into Medeiros began after a tip was obtained through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children CyberTipline.
In partnership with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Clermont Police Department detectives reviewed photographs and videos of graphic sexual exploitation of prepubescent females that were in possession of a local resident.
Their investigation led them to identify De Medeiros as the sole suspect in possession of the child sexual abuse materials.
On Wednesday, May 31, a search warrant was obtained for De Medeiros’ residence and on Friday, June 2, it was executed by members of the Clermont Police Department and Florida Department of Law Enforcement Cybercrime Task Force.
Three electronic devices were seized as evidence and De Medeiros was detained without incident. After a thorough review of the evidence seized, as well as an interview with the suspect, De Medeiros was charged with multiple felonies and transported to the Lake County Jail.
Law enforcement authorities say that De Medeiros has no known local employment and/or association with organizations involving children. He has no prior criminal history and detectives believe that the materials depicted children who were unknown to De Medeiros.
De Medeiros was released on Saturday, June 3 after posting bail.
