An Italian restaurant in Kissimmee was forced to close its doors for multiple days after a state inspector cited roach activity during separate inspections.

Di Carlo Ristorante, which is located at 2095 E Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee, was forced to close its doors on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10, after failing two health inspections by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

During the first inspection on June 9, the restaurant was cited for 16 health code violations, including 3 considered high priority. Among the high priority violations was the presence of roach activity, as evidenced by multiple live roaches found around the restaurant. The report indicates that at least four live roaches were found around a floor mixer, while another was found in a plastic wrap box.

Additionally, use of the dishmachine was discontinued until it could be serviced after the inspector noted that the chlorine sanitization level was not at the proper minimum strength.

During a second inspection on June 10, the inspector once again cited the presence of roach activity. During the inspector’s visit, at least one roach with an egg sack was spotted crawling on a wall in the restaurant. The report notes that the restaurant began using a 3-bin sink set up in lieu of the dish machine, which they said would be replaced.

On Monday, June 12, a third inspection was conducted and the restaurant was permitted to reopen, despite four violations remaining.
