A fire caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in property damage after it tore through a home in DeLand early Friday morning.
DeLand Fire Department crews were called to the scene of a fire in the area of 1367 Hensley Drive at around 2:21 a.m. on Friday, June 16.
Upon arrival, crews observed a working fire with heavy smoke conditions. A neighbor reported flames coming from the back of the home, with fire venting through the roof of the structure.
Fire crews were able to make entry into the home and aggressively contained the fire.
Prior to the arrival of firefightings crews, a responding DeLand police officer observed a resident of the home in the garage. The officer was able to safely remove the resident and the resident’s dog from the home. No other occupants were found in the residence.
That resident was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
According to authorities, the property loss of the structure and its contents will exceed $200,000.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Florida Fire Marshal Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigators.
