A 30-year-old man is being charged with attempted first degree murder for allegedly firing multiple shots at his ex-girlfriend after she accused him of making a mess and not cleaning up after himself.
Dewan Flores was arrested on Tuesday, June 13 on multiple felony charges related to a shooting incident that took place on Thursday, June 8.
According to an arrest affidavit filed by the Clermont Police Department, Flores’ ex-girlfriend contacted police just before 11:30 p.m. to report that Flores had shot up the house and left the location.
The victim told police that she had returned home from Panama City at around 2 p.m. that day and noticed that Flores had been drinking tequila. Tired from her trip, the woman says she went to bed and woke up at approximately 8:30 p.m. At that time, the victim noticed that Flores “was still drinking” and that the “kitchen was a mess.”
The victim took Flores’ sister home to Orlando and returned to the home at approximately 10:10 p.m. She then walked into the living room and got into an argument with Flores in reference to the house being a mess and “no one cleaning up after themselves,” according to the affidavit.
The argument moved to the garage, as the victim’s daughter was asleep inside the home. While the couple was arguing, the victim threatened to call 911 and have Flores arrested due to the fact that he had an outstanding warrant. The victim then called 911 and hung up.
According to the victim, Flores then removed a black handgun from his right waistband and discharged a round into the left side wall of the garage.
The victim was contacted by the 911 operator shortly thereafter and, while she was walking back into the house, Flores followed her with the gun pointed at her upper torso while stating “I’m gonna drop you bitch.”
Once inside the house, Flores pointed the gun at a television that was on the wall and discharged another round. The victim says she attempted to run to get her daughter who was asleep in the bedroom before Flores put the gun at her side and again stated, “I’m gonna drop you bitch.”
Flores then discharged the firearm, but the victim was able to get out of the way. The victim ran to the hallway and Flores discharged another round directly at her, but missed.
The victim escaped the household, but while she was outside, Flores took her phone and prevented her from contacting 911. The victim was able to contact 911 from another phone and the police responded to the scene shortly thereafter.
Police canvassed the area and eventually found Flores’ vehicle at an intersection around 6 miles away from the residence. Flores was not with the vehicle when they found it.
With the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Investigators, Flores was found and arrested on June 13. He is currently being held at the Lake County Jail and faces charges of attempted first degree murder with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, robbery by sudden snatching, and tampering with a witness.
