The Art and History Museums of Maitland announced that a new exhibit showing the religious and spiritual works of the museums’ founder will not go forward as planned.
On Wednesday, museum officials announced that, “due to unforeseen circumstances,” their scheduled “(Un)Common Faith” opening reception and exhibition has been cancelled.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, our opening reception event this Friday, 6/23, and the planned exhibition ‘(Un)Common Faith’ have been cancelled.”
The exhibition was going to feature the religious and spiritual works of J. André Smith, who founded the Art and History Museums of Maitland (formerly known as the Research Studio) in 1937. The exhibit was going to pair Smith’s works with those of Missionary Mary L. Proctor.
In response to a request by Orlando-News.com for further information, museum officials indicated that there were no additional details available regarding the closure.
Located at 231 West Packwood Avenue in Maitland, the museum regularly offers National Historic Landmark tours, but will go on hiatus at the end of this month. The final tours took place on Thursday, June 22 and are scheduled to resume in September.
