A 26-year-old man was arrested by DeLand police after he allegedly shot a gun into an occupied vehicle, causing it to crash.
DeLand Police Department officers responded to 1000 Springdale Court in Candlelight Oaks on Wednesday, June 28, after receiving reports regarding a crashed vehicle around 2 a.m.
Upon arrival, detectives found evidence of a shooting and quickly secured the area.
During their investigation, police determined that an individual fired a weapon into a vehicle during a dispute. As a result, the vehicle crashed and the intended victim was able to run away from the scene.
Several hours later, officers located a person matching the description of the shooter. The man, who was identified as Oscar Torres, was seen leaving a wooded area. Authorities executed a search warrant at Torres’ residence a short time thereafter and were able to seize 90 grams of cocaine, 195 grams of cannabis, 6.5 grams of suspected heroin/fentanyl, and assorted paraphernalia related to controlled substances.
Torres was taken to the Volusia County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and firing a missile into a dwelling. He was released on bond on June 28.
