Sanford police are trying to locate an 18-year-old male who is wanted for allegedly shooting and killing another individual that was walking to a store with family.
Sanford Police Department homicide detectives are seeking information from the public regarding the location of Marquis Antwan Goodwine, Jr., who is accused of murdering 18-year-old Lovell Brown.
According to authorities, the fatal shooting took place just before 1:15 a.m. Sunday, July 9. Officers responded to the area of 25th Street and Hartwell Avenue after receiving a call reporting a shooting with injuries.
Upon arrival, authorities located Brown, who was suffering from gunshot wounds. Brown was transported to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
During their investigation, detectives determined that Brown was walking with family members to a nearby store when he encountered a group of individuals. One of the individuals, Goodwine, Jr., recognized Brown and the two engaged in a physical confrontation.
During the course of the fight, Goodwine, Jr. brandished a firearm and shot Brown multiple times, according to witnesses. Goodwine, Jr. then fled from the scene on foot. Goodwine, Jr. currently has an active warrant for his arrest.
On Wednesday, SPD Deputy Chief Trekelle Perkins stated that the community needed to “continue to address young adults and even teenagers who think gun violence is the way to solve their problems.”
“The effects of these choices are permanent and devastating,” said Perkins.
