On June 23, 2023, Mary Lou Gibson passed away peacefully at age 82, surrounded by loving family. She was the beloved widow of Carl W. Gibson, who died March 24th, 2002.
Mary Lou, known to loved ones as “Lou,” was born on October 5th, 1940, in Salem, MA to the late Mary-Lou and Warren J. Pezold. She was the loving mother of Debbie Newlan and Carl W. Gibson III as well as the grandmother of seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was a longtime resident of Orlando, FL, and she spent her career as secretary of Dover Shores Elementary school, where her children also attended. She was a devoted PTA member as well as Girl Scout leader of Debbie’s troop and Cub Scout Den Mother of Carl’s troop.
Outside of work, Mary Lou was a devoted member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, where she was both a longtime secretary and volunteer.
She was also known for her loyalty, wit, and superhuman ability to (gracefully) dominate absolutely any game of Scrabble with no apparent effort. She loved solving crossword puzzles, reading novels, and handily beating contestants to answers on Jeopardy! from her couch.
Every summer she could be found spending a week with family at her timeshare in Daytona Beach. She also enjoyed traveling farther from home, from a mission trip to the Dominican Republic to vacations in Hawaii, Jamaica, and Holland with her sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church on 4545 Anderson Road.
