A 33-year-old Arizona man was killed while he was riding his bicycle after he was struck by a sports utility vehicle on State Road 50 this weekend.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of SR 50 and Plantation Drive in Brevard County at around 11:54 p.m. on Sunday, July 23.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 47-year-old Orlando woman was driving a 2017 Nissan Rogue westbound on SR 50, approaching the intersection of Plantation Drive, in the inside lane.

At the same time, a 33-year-old Phoenix man was traveling westbound on SR 50, approaching Plantation Drive on the inside lane. The man was not in a marked crosswalk and his bicycle was not equipped with lights.

As a result, the front of the SUV struck the cyclist.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and her two passengers, a 45-year-old man and a 5-year-old boy, were uninjured in the crash.
