A 55-year-old dentist was found guilty of tax evasion by a federal jury this week.
Frantz Brignol, of Eustis, was convicted of one count of failing to file a tax return, according to a statement issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
According to court records, Brignol, who worked as a dentist at Sage Dental in Altamonte Springs, amassed more than $600,000 in tax liabilities with the Internal Revenue Service.
Between 2014 and 2020, Brignol evaded tax payments by hiding hundreds of thousands of dollars in his mother’s bank accounts, for which he had signatory authority.
Additionally, Brignol traded funds overseas in his mother’s name and failed to disclose a bank account to the IRS. Brignol had an annual income of more than $200,000 and, in 2020, failed to file an income tax return as required under federal law.
Brignol, who was indicted last November, now faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced by United States District Judge Gregory A. Presnell during a hearing on November 9, 2023.
