A 33-year-old man from Kissimmee was killed after his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a charter bus.
The fatal accident took place on Thursday, August 10, at around 9:18 p.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man was driving a 2004 Subaru Impreza westbound on Buena Vista Drive, just east of Bonnet Creek Parkway.
For unknown reasons, the driver over-corrected and veered to its left before it began rotating counter-clockwise. The car struck a raised concrete curb with its undercarriage and continued to rotate south, across the dedicated bus lanes.
The driver of the 2009 Van Hool Charter Bus, a 53-year-old Orlando man, saw the vehicle enter the eastbound lanes and attempted to avoid a collision by swerving. The bus was unable to move out of the way in time and, as a result, the Impreza crashed into its side.
The impact caused the bus to propel eastward into the left and center lane of Buena Vista Drive.
While the bus was swerving to avoid the collision, the rear of the bus entered the outside lane and into the direct path of a 2016 Cadillac Escalade being driven by an 18-year-old woman from Davenport. As a result, the left front of the Escalade crashed into the right rear of the bus. The collision caused the Escalade to travel off the roadway and onto the right shoulder before colliding with a concrete curb.
The Kissimmee man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The bus driver received minor injuries in the crash. The other driver and the passengers onboard the vehicles were not injured in the crash.
