Woman killed on I-4 after car rear-ended into semi-truck

A 28-year-old Davenport woman was killed late last night after her vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle in a construction zone and thrown into a semi-truck.

The fatal accident took place near mile marker 62 on Interstate 4 around 12:47 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16.

According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was stopped in the westbound lanes of I-4 in her 2022 Kia Forte. In front of her, a 2023 Freightliner semi-truck was also stopped.

Both vehicles were in the center lane of the highway, near mile marker 62, in an active construction zone.

A 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 being driven by a 33-year-old man from Champions Gate was traveling westbound at the same time. According to the report, the driver failed to see the traffic that was stopped ahead.

As a result, the front of Dodge Ram collided with the rear of the Kia. The impact caused the Kia to jettison into the back of the semi-truck.

The Davenport woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck, a 61-year-old Lakeland man, was not injured in the accident.
