Ruddy Smith was born June 20, 1940, in Port Maria, St. Mary, Jamaica to the late Satira Hylton. He migrated to Ottawa, Canada as a young man to find his way before eventually settling to New York City and later retiring in Ocoee, FL.
Shortly after settling in NYC, he met and fell in love with Lyn. They were later married in 1978 and were with each other through all of life’s ups and downs. Ruddy and Lyn would raise their two daughters, Tisha and Sheri in NYC and watch them grow into successful adults. Ruddy was a wonderful and devoted husband and father, grandfather and friend. Ruddy cherished the friendships he made and loved being with his family. He enjoyed traveling extensively and loving his grandkids, Shiloh and Sydney.
He leaves behind a loving legacy to his daughters, Tisha Jobson-Smith, Sheri Braddick; sons Greg and Kevin Smith; son-in-law Dustin Braddick; granddaughters Shiloh and Sydney Braddick, brother-in-law Earl Salmon; cousin Evadne McKay and family, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, and close family friends throughout Florida, Jamaica, New York and Canada.
A visitation for Ruddy will be held Friday, August 18, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
A funeral service will occur Friday, August 18, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
A graveside service will occur Friday, August 18, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m., 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
A reception will occur Friday, August 18, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL 34734.
