Fire at church in Orlando on August 22

A fire completely destroyed a church in west Orlando on Tuesday evening.

Orange County Fire Rescue crews were called to the scene of a fully involved fire at The Center Arena Church located at 10 N Hiawassee Road on Tuesday, August 22.

Upon arrival, crews found the church was fully involved with fire and began attacking the flames. Crews continued to battle the flames using aerial support to douse the fire with water.

The fire was eventually knocked down and crews began hitting hot spots. According to officials, a fire on the ridge of the roof caused the roof to collapse. The collapse entrapped one firefighter that had entered the structure.

A Mayday was called and the firefighter was rescued and removed from the building. He was assessed and transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center with say non-life-threatening injuries.

The building was evacuated and no additional transports were required.

No additional injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
