Hugh Dale McIntyre, died peacefully at his home in Kissimmee on Sunday, August 20, 2023. Hugh was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 16, 1932 to Peter and Fern McIntyre. He attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Edwin Denby High School in 1950. During his youth Hugh prided himself on delivering the Detroit News for many years, and purchased his first car before the age of sixteen. Hugh was a lifelong lover of automobiles.
Upon graduation, Hugh began his career at Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical Company. He enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, earning the rank of staff sergeant and served in Europe for four years from 1951-1955. Upon his discharge, Hugh resumed his career at Parke-Davis working as a supervisor in research stores and services. He continued his employment there through the early 1990’s, transferring to Ann Arbor in 1981 when Parke-Davis was acquired by Warner Lambert.
He met his wife Roberta in 1955 at Parke-Davis and they were married in 1956 until her death in 2004. Hugh and Bobbie raised two daughters, Sandra and Susan. Hugh was a devoted father and grandfather who took great pride in his family.
Upon his retirement in the early 1990’s, Hugh and Roberta relocated to central Florida. He and Bobbie lived for many years in SunLake Estates on Lake Yale, where he golfed nearly every day and played on the softball team until the age of 85. Hugh was a great athlete with a delightful sense of humor and made friends with everyone he met.
Hugh was a lifelong Methodist and loved to worship and sing classic hymns in his lovely baritone voice. He last attended Poinciana Christian Church with his daughter Sandy. His best friend in later life was his beloved son-in-law John who took great care of him.
Hugh was predeceased by his wife, Roberta, daughter Susan, and sister, Joyce Fulkerson. He is survived by his sister Virginia Antoniou, daughter Sandra Zemba and her husband John, grandsons Neil and Philip Zemba, son-in-law Kyle Rothwell and granddaughter Samantha Rothwell, his brothers in law, Jerry and Patrick Oreson, and many nieces and nephews.
Hugh will be interred at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday October 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Picano’s Italian Grille in Troy, Michigan (3775 Rochester Road).
