Winter Park Fire Rescue Department firefighters came to the rescue of a barred owl on Monday night.
On Monday, September 4, members of WPFRD were called by a motorist who reported that an owl had flew into the roof rack of their vehicle as they were driving around midnight.
“These majestic owls are still commonly seen in our canopy tree-lined streets and beloved among residents and visitors,” reads a statement from WPFRD.
Once the owl was freed from the rack, it quickly flew off and appeared to be okay, according to authorities.
The barred owl, also known as the striped owl, can be found throughout the state of Florida and in most of the eastern United States. Barred owls do not migrate in or to Florida, and instead are territorial, year-round birds, according to the University of Florida/IFAS Extension.
