It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Surendra “Suru” Jashbhai Patel on September 12, 2023, at the age of 87. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.
Suru’s smile was contagious, and he had a great sense of humor. He was the life of every party, making friends with strangers wherever he went. In his early teens, he embarked on a remarkable journey, starting his career at Kenya Commercial Bank. He worked diligently and moved up the ranks, eventually retiring in his 50s before moving to the United States.
An avid golfer, Suru’s passion for the sport earned him numerous trophies from local golf clubs. He forged some of his closest friendships on the golf course, where his love for the game brought joy to everyone around him.
Suru’s love for music was a constant presence in his life. He could often be found singing his favorite tunes, filling the air with melodies that touched the hearts of those around him. Music was his solace and a means of bringing him joy.
His wanderlust knew no bounds. Suru was a seasoned traveler, exploring the world with a sense of wonder and curiosity. His adventures took him to far-flung places, and he relished sharing his travel stories and experiences with family and friends.
Unfortunately, in his later years, he faced the challenge of memory loss. Despite this, he continued to make friends and remained entertaining until his very last day, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Suru is survived by his loving wife, Anuradha Patel, daughters Dr. Rubal Patel, Shefali Patel, and son Gaurang Patel. He also leaves behind his cherished daughter-in-law Sejal Patel, his son-in-law John Mobley, and two beloved grandchildren, Ishana and Shailen Patel. Additionally, he is survived by his step-grandchildren Ansley and Ian Mobley.
Surendra “Suru” Jashbhai Patel’s departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide us. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
