It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Derek, a 9-year-old miracle who defied the odds and brought endless joy into our lives. Derek was a sweet, brave, and funny boy whose love and laughter will forever resonate in our hearts.

Derek’s zest for life knew no bounds. He cherished the little things like taking walks, finding comfort in the SUN and connecting with his walking partner in every step he took. Derek was also an avid music lover, with a special fondness for songs like “Save Your Tears,” “Die for You,” “Calm Down,” and countless others that captured his heart and soul.

Bowling & golf was a family affair, and he and his dad were an unbeatable team. Strikes, spares, birdies & eagles became memories that we now hold dear. They shared laughter, competition, and a special bond that warmed our hearts.

When it came to Nintendo, Switch Sports or anything Mario was always on top! Mario was Derek’s hero in the digital world, leaping over obstacles and defeating Bowser with a determination that was truly admirable. The gleam in his eye while playing was unforgettable.

Monopoly & Uno games were legendary. The fierce battles, the chance cards, and the laughter that accompanied every game were some of the best times we had together. Derek played to win, but he also played to make us all smile.

Derek aspired to become a YouTube star, pouring his creativity into videos that showcased his unique talent and personality. He would get so adamant at recreating them in the exact same way he had seem them previously.

He was a trampoline master, bouncing through life with boundless enthusiasm and an infectious smile.

He loved to sing and dance, especially with his sissy and most recently had become a roller coaster enthusiast.

And let’s not forget his passion for mini-golf. Every swing, every hole-in-one, was met with joy and high-fives. He really did have a knack for kicking everyone’s butt on the putt-putt course!

Derek brought so much love, laughter, and adventure into our lives. His spirit was infectious, his smile heartwarming, and his love everlasting. Though he left us far too soon, we will forever treasure the memories we created together.

We will miss Derek more than words can express. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his memory will shine brightly in our hearts.

Rest in peace, our sweet Derek. Your love for pizza, bowling strikes, Nintendo quests, Uno battles, dancing, singing, and mini-golf adventures will forever be a part of us. We love you more than words can convey, and we will carry your spirit with us always. Until we meet again…

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, therapists, and all of Derek’s caretakers for the care and compassion they showed our sweet boy through the years.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Northland Community Church on September 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
