Luz Lilliam Gavillan

Luz “Lily” Gavillan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother was called by the Lord on Saturday September 16, 2023. Lily was born on August 8, 1948 in Puerto Rico to mother Guillermina and father Julio Rivera.

Even at a young age in New York, Lily helped care for her widow mother and younger siblings and did so throughout her entire life. At the age of 22 she married the love of her life Angel and in 2023 they celebrated 53 years of marriage. Their life and love brought into the world their children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

She was a lover of God and walked with Him every day of her life until her last breath here on earth. Above all things Lily loved her family and all the things that brought her family together like food, traditions, vacations and more. Not a holiday went by in which her home wasn’t decorated for the season nor her delicious food and baked goods out and ready to eat and share with all who walked through her door. Her servant’s heart has touched so many due to the unconditional help and love she extended to everybody who knew her. Although Lily will always be loved by her children and grandchildren, she always made sure they knew she loved them “more”.

A celebration of life in honor of Luz will be held September 21, 2023 with public viewing at 2 p.m. at Highland Memorial Gardens with a service at 3:30 p.m. Lily’s wishes for this celebration is to wear colorful (non-black) attire as she celebrates and rejoices in God’s arms.
