Workers trapped on platform at Orlando high-rise after storm

Two workers that were trapped on a platform multiple stories above the ground after a storm passed through downtown Orlando, were able to make their way to a nearby balcony before their equipment was freed by emergency personnel.

Orlando Fire Department crews responded to The VUE at Lake Eola (150 E Robinson Street) in downtown Orlando on Thursday, September 21, after receiving calls regarding an exterior platform that had become stuck.

According to OFD, two workers were suspended on an exterior platform when an afternoon storm passed through the area. The workers were briefly trapped on the platform before they were able to make their way to one of the nearby balconies.

The OFD Technical Rescue Team closed off the area as crews worked to loosen the platform, which became stuck by strong winds produced by the afternoon storm.

The platform was eventually loosed and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Last month, the city reopened multiple roadways throughout downtown Orlando that had been closed for several weeks due to scaffolding issues.
