Mildred Lee Hiers Peters

Mildred Lee Hiers Peters passed from this life to God’s heaven on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Mildred was born on October 12, 1924, in Sanford, Florida, to William and Helen Hiers. Mildred and her three siblings, Hazel, W.L., and Louise, grew up in their family home on Orange Street in Sanford and they enjoyed family times together. They attended Christ United Methodist Church where she accepted Jesus as her Savior. She attended Seminole County Schools and then worked at H&A Department Store in downtown Sanford.

Mildred had 2 children, Donna and Wayne, with their father, Ralph Peters. When her children were young, Mildred worked at Lake Mary Elementary School cafeteria, and later at JC Penney’s. At the time of her retirement from JC Penney’s in 1997, she was a floor supervisor and had been with them for almost 30 years.

Mildred was predeceased by her parents, William and Helen, her sisters, Hazel and Louise, her brother, W.L., their spouses, and her grandson, Robert Peters. Mildred is survived by her children, Donna (Stuart) Searles, Wayne (Shan) Peters; her granddaughter, Stacey (Rick) Lindamood; three grandsons, Alex Lindamood, Josh Lindamood, and Aaron Peters; and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was known by many people by multiple names – Daughter, Sister, Mom, Millie, Nana, Aunt Minner, Friend – but she was known by all for her kindness, humor, and for being a faithful friend.

There will be a viewing at DeGusipe Funeral Home at 905 Laurel Avenue in Sanford, Florida, on Friday, October 13, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Her funeral service will be held at Safe Harbor Christian Church at 730 Upsala Road in Sanford, on Saturday, October 14, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., and she will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery (section E) after the service.
