Nicholas C. Pettine passed away peacefully in Orlando, FL on September 16, 2023 with his loving husband, Dan at his side. Nick was born on January 14, 1956 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Norristown PA to the late Vincent and Mercedes (Gaynor) Pettine.
Left behind to mourn him are his sister, Patricia (Harry) McCullough, brothers, Gerard (Kathy) and Vincent (Laura) Pettine. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph (Kellie) Pettine. Nick is the cherished uncle of Michael and the late Brian McCullough, Alison (Chris)Wyshock, Valerie (Ryan)Barger, Joseph (Liz), Jessica, Christina, and Corey Pettine and several great neices and nephews.
Nick attended St. Patrick School, Norristown PA; his days there and in the Church are integral parts of his identity. In 1973, Nick graduated from Bishop Kenrick High School where he was a member of the marching band. In 1978, he earned his LPN (licensed practical nurse) diploma at Thomas Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing. After working many years as an LPN, Nick went back to school and graduated in 2003 from the University of Central Florida completing his studies to be a registered nurse (RN).
Nick’s nursing career began at Pennsylvania Hospital where he met his lifelong friends who affectionately remember him as “Nicky Nurse”, a name he wittingly called himself. He held various nursing positions over the years, primarily in the field of hospice and palliative care. He retired in 2016 from Vitas Healthcare.
Nick met the love of his life, Dan Loza in 2000 and they were married on June 17, 2010. Nick and Dan shared a love for each other, a love for family and friends, Broadway plays, and Nick’s passion for music and dancing. Together they travelled to Europe, took Disney cruises, visited family and friends in PA and Peru and welcomed those they loved to their home in Florida.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated for Nick on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, Norristown, PA. A celebration of life/birthday party will be held in Orlando, FL in January , 2024.
