Officials say that a Code Red lockdown at DeLand High School came about due to an unfounded threat.
On Wednesday afternoon, the high school, which is located at 800 N Hill Avenue in DeLand, was locked down during a Code Red. According to the DeLand Police Department, officers responded to the school after an unsubstantiated threat was reported.
DPD officers and Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies did a sweep through of the school using K-9 units and were unable to locate a threat.
Yesterday evening, law enforcement authorities lifted the lockdown and the school was cleared. Police determined that the threat was “unfounded” and detectives are currently conducting an investigation into the threat.
The threat follows multiple incidents at DeLand-area schools dating back to last year.
Earlier this month, a student at DeLand Middle School was arrested after he was found in possession of a firearm.
