Lester Kunz

Lester C. Kunz died peacefully on 10/12/23 in Maitland, FL at the age of 80.

Lester is survived by his daughters Suzanne Kunz Thompson (husband Allan) of Centreville, VA and Caroline Culotta (husband Ken) of Maitland, FL; his grandchildren Christoper and Katie Culotta of Maitland, FL, and his sister Virginia Brant of Paw Paw, MI. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 yrs, Rebecca Kunz, along with his four older brothers (Yank, Barry, Gerry, and Bob), and his older sister (Lorraine).

Lester was born on 10/9/43, in Gulfport, MS to Erwin and Janet Kunz, and raised in Long Beach, MS. He graduated from college with a teaching degree, and taught for two years. He married Rebecca, whom he met in the laundry detergent aisle at the local grocery store where he worked in 1967. Lester began his service in the Army in December 1967. He and Rebecca moved to Arlington, VA where he served as part of The Old Guard at Ft Myer. Lester enjoyed his service in the Army, which included significant time at the White House where he was able to be a part of many dignitary ceremonies including President Nixon’s first inauguration and President Eisenhower’s funeral. Lester was honorably discharged from the Army in December 1969. Lester worked at Sears for many years prior to working as a condo property manager.

Lester enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed baking, especially cookies. Lester never met a dessert he didn’t like! Lester instilled his love of football to his daughters, and was a huge Washington Redskins fan. Many weekends were spent watching football, and reading. Lester loved reading, especially history biographies.

A funeral is scheduled for Friday October 27, at 1:00 p.m. at St Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.
