Three teenage suspects are facing felony charges after they allegedly gunned down a 16-year-old boy who was socializing with friends in an apartment complex parking lot.
On Wednesday, 17-year-old Princeton Postell and 18-year-old Jackie Irving, Jr. were arrested in connection with the homicide of Jamarcus Parker, who was shot and killed last weekend.
Postell turned himself into the Volusia County Jail without incident, while Irving turned himself into Sanford police with assistance from his family. Both individuals were charged with first-degree, premeditated murder.
A third individual, 18-year-old Angel J. Diaz, was located by Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and was brought to the Sanford Police Department for questioning. He was eventually transported to jail and charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree premeditated murder.
The teens are accused of perpetrating the fatal shooting on Sunday, October 22, at just before 6 p.m. On that evening, Sanford Police Department officers responded to the Stratford Pointe Apartments located at 1700 Old England Loop after receiving a call regarding a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located Parker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Parker was transported to a local hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
During their investigation, police determined that Parker and a group of friends were hanging out in the parking lot of the apartment complex before the shooting. While the group was standing in the parking lot, a burgundy KIA drove into the apartment complex and two individuals exited the vehicle. The two individuals then approached the group and began shooting before they got back into the KIA and left the complex.
In surveillance video reviewed by police, SPD Chief Cecil Smith says that the suspects had a “blatant disregard” for the lives of “so many people” who were allegedly in the vicinity of the shooting.
“They cold-bloodedly approached a crowd of teenagers and opened fire,” according to Smith. He says that there were “young children on bicycles” that were seen running “for their lives” as the “shooters gunned down a 16 year old.”
“The solution to ending these senseless killings begins with the participation from everyone within the community…Pick up the phone, email, come down to the station, but do something if you know something,” said Smith.
