New ice cream shop replaces 70-year-old predecessor that closed after fire

A new ice cream shop has taken over a space that closed its doors in late 2022 after a fire was set to the building, ending its 74-year run.

Sweetie’s Ice Cream shop held a soft opening on Saturday, November 4 for its new business at 212 S Orange Blossom Trail.

Owned and operated by Eric Macintosh Jr. and Jelani Gray, the new business will feature classic soft-serve ice cream and toppings.

On Halloween, Gray and Macintosh held a soft opening for children as a test launch for the business.

The new business takes over a space once occupied by Goff’s Drive-In Ice Cream, which shut down in December 2022 after it was set ablaze in May. That business originally opened its doors in 1948.

For more information on the new shop, its menu, or its hours of operation, follow Sweetie’s Ice Cream shop on Facebook.
