A 25-year-old Orlando man who was struck by a vehicle while he was riding his moped, has died from his injuries.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was pronounced deceased on Wednesday, less than 48 hours after he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene of the accident.
The man, who has not been identified by authorities, was riding a 2016 Riya Zhejiang moped northbound on Orange Blossom Trail when he attempted to turn on Americana Boulevard at around 11:22 p.m. on Monday, November 6.
As he was attempting to turn, the man was struck by a 2008 Nissan Altima allegedly being driven by Anthony Marcel Martin.
A witness who saw the accident claims the Nissan was traveling “above the posted speed limit” when the crash occurred.
After the collision, the Nissan fled from the scene and the rider was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office immediately began their search for the vehicle and found it a short time later in a parking lot.
Martin was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail. He was originally charged with failing to stop or remain at a crash involving serious injuries. That has since been upgraded to “involving death.” Martin is also accused of tampering with evidence for allegedly removing the license plate from his vehicle.
