The Orlando Police Department is asking the public to help identify the individuals who fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 5-year-old girl.
On Tuesday afternoon, OPD provided additional details about a fatal hit-and-run accident that took place over the weekend and claimed the life of Aiyanna McCoy, who was riding in one of the vehicles.
According to OPD, the vehicle responsible for the accident was a 2016 silver Mercedes C300. The occupants of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the crash.
“Orlando Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit is actively investigating this and is asking for the public’s assistance,” reads a statement from OPD.
The fatal hit-and-run took place on Saturday, November 11, just before 10 p.m. According to police, the Mercedes was traveling southbound in the 4300 block of N Orange Blossom Trail alongside a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder with multiple occupants when the vehicles crashed.
As a result of the crash, Aiyanna McCoy and another occupant of the Pathfinder were ejected from the vehicle.
McCoy, who was a kindergarten student at Orange Center Elementary School, was transported to a local area hospital after the accident, where she was pronounced deceased.
The other occupants of the vehicle, including a 9-year-old girl and a 4-year-old girl, are all in stable condition as of this writing, according to OPD.
No additional details were provided by law enforcement authorities.
