Surrounded by family and loved ones, Carol Pettingill Glinski died on November 18, 2023 of natural causes at the age of 89.
She left our world as she came into our world: blanketed with warmth, affection, and a legacy of love. Born on December 10, 1933 to parents Mildred and George Pettingill in Groton, New York, Carol Glinski lived a life dedicated to service and sacrifice for those dear to her heart.
After attending the State University of New York at Cortland, Carol returned home to care for her parents. She resumed work at Smith Corona in Groton and went on to marry her college sweetheart, William “Bill” Glinski. Carol and Bill eventually settled in Waterloo, New York where they had five children.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, and survived
by her children. Thomas Glinski of Orlando, Florida is her eldest child followed by daughter and son-in-law Amy and Jorge Contogonas of Orlando, Florida; daughter and daughter-in law Lynda and Amy Ellis of Chuluota, Florida; daughter and son-in law Catherine Glinski and Jim Yeagle of Osteen, Florida; and daughter Rebecca Murphy of Jacksonville, Florida. The legacy of love extends further through Carol’s six grandchildren: Kelsie, Jeremy, Zoe, Elias, Kennedy, and Will.
Wrapped up in and beyond Carol’s devotion to family and loved ones was her career in
technology, healthcare, and financial administration as well as her numerous forays into public service including decades of volunteer work for the International Red Cross. Whether belting out Broadway hits as lead singer for the SUNY Cortland dance band or gathered around the family piano for Christmas carols, she spread joy and infectious optimism with every beat, with every step. Her heartwarming silliness, remarkable memory, amazing stories, and keen insight will be deeply missed but will live on through the countless ripples of all those who were touched by her
grace.
