Pedestrian killed while crossing SR 434

A 73-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle and killed while she was attempting to cross a local roadway.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of State Road 434 and Calloway Drive on Monday, November 20 at around 5:48 p.m.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman, who was from New York, was walking in an easterly direction from the grass median and entered the northbound lane of SR 434.

The woman was not in a marked crosswalk when she entered the roadway, according to FHP.

At the same time, a 62-year-old man from Altamonte Springs was driving his 1998 Nissan Frontier northbound on the roadway, just south of Calloway Drive.

The driver noticed the pedestrian and attempted to swerve to the left to avoid a collision. However, the front right of the vehicle struck the pedestrian.

The driver was not injured and remained on the scene.

The pedestrian was transported to AdventHealth South, where she was pronounced deceased.
