In Loving Memory of Joyce Helene Block (Kline) Horne
On November 25, 2023, our beloved mother, Joy (Joyce) Horne, age 90, peacefully
passed away in her Fern Park, FL home.
Joy was born in Brooklyn, NY, on Feb. 26, 1933, and lived in Binghamton, NY, for 40
years. After graduating from Union-Endicott High School, she worked at General
Electric and the Binghamton Gas Company. She was married to her high school
sweetheart, Norman Kline of Kline’s Men’s and Boy’s Store in Endicott, NY for 20 years
and they raised three children together.
Joy’s passion for children led her to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Child
Development from Broome Community College. She was a co-director of the Valley
Nursery School in Endicott, NY, and also taught at the Jewish Community Center Pre-
School in Vestal.
She changed careers in 1973 when she moved to North Miami Beach and became the
office manager of the North Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce. In 1978, she married
Ralph Horne, and together they embarked on a joyous journey marked by love,
laughter, and countless adventures until his death in 1993.
She returned to pre-school teaching in 1979 and flourished at the Maitland Jewish
Community Center for two decades, creating their Curriculum Resource Program.
Family and friends were the center of Joy’s world. She loved to laugh, had a great
clever sense of humor, and will lovingly be remembered for her sweetness, kindness,
generosity, and zest for life.
She was always up for a new adventure and traveled around the country and the world.
She loved performing in musical theater and writing song parodies for any occasion.
She treasured her time with her Friendship Circle Club, her JCC Birthday Club,
Hadassah meetings, weekly mahjong games, and reunions with Binghamton friends. In
recent years, she enjoyed concerts, plays, puzzles, word games, and especially the
precious time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandson.
