Nail salon burglar and murder suspect arrested in Orlando

A man accused of burglarizing multiple nail salons in Volusia County was tracked down and arrested in Orlando alongside another man wanted for allegedly murdering two people in Georgia last week.

Xavier Jones, Jr., 21, was arrested by members of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, December 4, in connection with multiple burglaries across Volusia County.

According to law enforcement authorities, Jones entered the Spa Nail Salon at 2783 Elkcam Boulevard in Deltona on November 22, at around 1 a.m.

Video surveillance camera shows a masked suspect shattering the glass at the business before walking inside and beelining for the cash register. After multiple failed attempts to smash open the register, the suspect is seen taking the cash register with him before leaving the establishment.

A surveillance camera outside of the business captured the suspect’s vehicle, which was identified as a white Inifiniti sedan.

About an hour later, the same vehicle was reported at a similar break-in at Premiere Nails in Edgewater.

Using license plate readers, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified the vehicle as belonging to Jones, who lives in Orlando. Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies visited Jones’ registered address and found the car parked outside. The vehicle was seized as evidence and a search warrant was issued to inspect the vehicle.

During their search, detectives found a mask in the back seat that matched the mask worn by the suspect in the video. Detectives also found a glove, a collection of loose coins, a nail salon loyalty card, pieces of a cash register, broken glass, and black boots with shards of broken glass stuck in the soles.

Although Jones denied any involvement in the burglaries and claimed he had rented out his vehicle to someone else, detectives used DNA from the mask to compare it to a sample from Jones and obtained a complete match.

Jones was taken into custody and is currently incarcerated at the Orange County Jail. He is being held on charges of burglary, criminal mischief, and violation of probation.

While detectives were at Jones’ house on Monday, another individual, Taverance T. Jackson, Jr., was found to have an active warrant out of Georgia. Jackson, who is from Opa-locka, was wanted in a November 30 shooting at an apartment complex in Albany, Georgia.

That shooting left two men dead and another individual wounded.

In the room where Jackson was staying, detectives found two firearms that they believe were used in the shooting in Albany.

Jackson was taken into custody by Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
