Leonor Diaz

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leonor Diaz Veloza. Leonor was born in Santander, Colombia in July of 1940 and passed away in Lake County, Florida in mid-November 2023 at the age of 83.

Leonor was preceded in death by her loving husband Jorge E. Diaz Sr., her mother, Ana Gilma Mayoral Fajardo and father, Diogenes Veloza Amaya. She is survived by her four children: Luis (Linda) Diaz, Jorge Diaz Jr, John (Christina) Diaz, Sandra (Matt) Diaz, four granddaughters Megan, Molly, Khloe, and Alexa, her sisters Blanca Inés, Teresa, Beatriz, Rosa, Lucía, Gloria, Lilia and Gladys, brother Alejandro, and numerous nieces and nephews.

With her 3 sons, Leonor migrated to the United States in the late 1960s to join her husband who had moved to Bronx, NY a year prior. The family then moved to their home in Northeast Philadelphia, PA where they lived for over 15 years before moving to Orlando FL. She worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co.for over 40 years, both in Philadelphia and in Orlando.

Leonor loved spending time in her garden and had a special affinity for roses but loved all flowers. Feeding her family and friends was her love language, and her cheese arepas were famous. Instead of saying, “I love you,” she would ask, “What do you want to eat?” “¿Qué vas a comer?”

She loved going shopping, as well as attending church, most recently Holy Cross Catholic Church and Heavenly Touch Ministries.

Leonor was strong-willed and independent and expressed her love by how deeply she took care of her family and friends. She was deeply generous; always bringing a luggage bag full of gifts to her family in Colombia when she visited.

She will never be forgotten and will live on in our hearts and memories.

A memorial service and reception will be held for her on Saturday, December 16, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Iglesia Vida Abundante, 6115 Winegard Rd., Orlando, FL.
