A 63-year-old driver was killed after he attempted to make a left turn on an Orlando roadway and was struck by a speeding vehicle.
The fatal accident took place at the intersection of Silver Star Road and Powers Drive on Sunday, December 31, at around 6:04 p.m.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the man, who was from Orlando, was driving a 2014 Jeep Compass eastbound on Silver Star Road, approaching the intersection with Powers Drive in the left turn lane.
The driver attempted to make a left turn to travel northbound on Powers Drive when he entered the direct path of a 2015 Dodge Challenger.
As a result, the two vehicles crashed into each other and the impact caused the Jeep to overturn off the roadway.
According to FHP, the Challenger was traveling above the posted speed limit.
The driver of the Challenger, a 22-year-old Orlando man, and his passenger, a 21-year-old Winter Park man, were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
The driver of the Jeep was transported to Orlando Health Central Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
