Used fireworks in plastic bag cause fire at home on New Year’s Eve

A fire broke out at a home in Seminole County on New Year’s Eve after used fireworks that were placed in a bag reignited.

Seminole County Fire Department crews were called to Valley Drive in Longwood on Sunday, December 31, at around 10:42 p.m. in reference to a structure fire.

According to SCFD, a collection of used fireworks was placed in a wet plastic bag. That bag caught outside of the garage before burning through the soffit.

Upon arrival, crews found that the fire had spread to the attic of the home.

Firefighters worked to contain the fire to the side of the garage and the attic.

All of the occupants were out of the home upon the arrival of emergency crews. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
