Wiley Dee Wooten, 79 of West Union, South Carolina passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, at his residence due to cancer.
A member of a Pioneer Osceola County family, Wiley was born in Kissimmee, Florida, the son of Dallas and Cecile Wooten on September 28, 1944, and was a Baptist by faith. He lived in Intercession City as a child and went to grade school there in a Bible College Town and later to high school at Osceola High where he graduated. Sonny was interested in shop class, Ag and football. He went to work in Masonry Construction with his uncle “Coot” Wiley Wooten.
He served in the United States Army in the Vietnam war for 4 years then took a job surveying some of the first properties of Disney World. He wanted out of the “Rat Race” and moved to Walhalla, South Carolina to start Wooten Construction. Later, he closed the company to get away from the “Red Tape” and stayed in construction as a supervisor to help build Greenville, S.C. Hospital emergency room and The Greenville City Library. He purchased 35 acres with an abandoned dairy farm. Built a beautiful home on the hill and lived there 40+ years until his death. Sonny was a caring and giving person. Always had an open door for anyone who was down and out and needed a place to stay. If you went to visit anytime, he always wanted to take you for a ride to see the mountains and waterfalls.
He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors included two sisters: Katherine (Joe) Kincaid of Bartow, Florida and Marie (Joel) O’Neill of Haines City, Florida; one brother: Guy (Susan) Wooten of Intercession City, Florida; daughter in law: Jennifer, 17 first cousins and many other families and friends.
