Kathleen Buckley

Kathleen Buckley (September 26, 1954- January 9, 2024) Kathleen Buckley, widow, daughter, sister, aunt, champion of the oppressed, lover of small animals, fierce advocate, and loyal and caring friend, went to her eternal rest on January 9, 2024 in Orlando, Florida.

Kathleen died peacefully, with family members at her side. Kathleen suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage while enjoying an activity that she loved: she was bicycling across the State of Florida, her new home.

Kathy, as most called her, was born in Flint, Michigan on September 26, 1954. The eldest of five children, she attended Gesu Catholic school in Detroit before the family moved to Holly, Michigan upon the graduation of her father, the late James R. “Jim” Buckley, from law school. Kathy graduated from Holly Senior High School in 1972 and then the University of Michigan-Flint before obtaining her Juris Doctor from the Detroit College of Law in 1980.

Kathy then practiced law in the family law firm in Flint until 2022, when she retired from the practice of law and moved to Naples, Florida. She specialized in domestic relations and family law and earned the respect of the judiciary and her colleagues at the bar.

Kathy married David O’Neill, the love of her life, in 1996 and they enjoyed diving together, travel and fine dining until David’s death in 2011. Kathleen was a fierce advocate, aptly nicknamed “Mama Bear” by her stepchildren.
Kathy had a huge heart, and as fearsome as Kathy could be as an adversary, if she loved you she would do most anything to help you. Kathy had many interests over the years, including dancing, scuba diving, running, weightlifting, and most recently, bicycling. She engaged in hurricane relief efforts.

Kathy was predeceased by her loving husband David O’Neill, her cherished parents, James R. and Jean C. Buckley, her beloved brother William “Bill” Buckley, and her loving sister-in-law, Jennifer Sweeney Buckley.

Surviving Kathy are her brothers Michael (Violet), John (Anne), and Joseph (Diane), her nephews and nieces Daniel, Matthew (Jennifer), Brendan (Tessa), Sean (Gabriela), Conor (Susan), Geraldine Granados Todd, Jack, Robert (Elaine), Madeline, Matthew, Sarah and Sophie, and her grandnephews and nieces Heather, Nathan, Ryan, Laura, James and Emma.

Also surviving Kathy are her beloved stepchildren, Melissa Stanfield (Richard), Teresa Osieczonek (James), Kathleen Jones (William), and grandchildren Christopher and Laura Stanfield, Ash and Cody Jones, and great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Isabella Stanfield, and stepdaughter, Lauren Lewis.
