A 41-year-old man from Winter Garden was killed after his speeding Tesla became airborne while descending a hill, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times and crash into a tree.
The fatal accident was reported to the Florida Highway Patrol at around 7:19 a.m. this morning.
According to an FHP report, the man was traveling in a 2023 Tesla Model Y southbound on Tiny Road, just north of Green Orchard Avenue in Horizon West.
The Tesla was traveling about the posted speed limit and became airborne after descending a hill, according to the report. The Tesla then rotated clockwise, traveled off the right side of the roadway, and struck a fence.
The vehicle entered a field and collided with a tree before overturning and coming to final rest with the right side of the Tesla against a tree.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities say the date and time of when the crash occurred remains under investigation. Although it was discovered early this morning, a local resident advised that they may have heard the crash last night at approximately 10 p.m.
